This tutorial is aimed at people who are either commissioners of mesh projects, or are otherwise new to uploading models to the Second Life grid. It assumes you know basic controls of Second Life and can navigate with confidence. First of all you're going to want to do the Mesh Upload Quiz to ensure you know what is OK and what isn't OK to upload to the grid, you're going to want to log in to a place you can rez at in peace. Click Build on the top menu bar, then Upload, then Mesh Model. Browse to the location of your .dae file. In this case it is ShieldModel.dae. Select it and press Open. The Upload Model popup will open and give you a lot of data about the model you are uploading. Everything is set up and ready to go, so all we need to do is click Calculate weights and fee. SL will then calculate how much it will cost to upload, and how big the Land Impact will be. Hooray! This model is only 11L to upload and 1.2 Land Impact. That will round down inworld to 1 Land Impact, which is lovely and low poly. Where it says Plane.003 up in that top left corner, that is your object name - rename it to something you will remember, and then click Upload to get your model on the grid! You should see your model in your objects folder now! It can be dragged from your inventory to the ground now, ready for the next step. Next we're gonna upload the AO map texture and apply it to our model! Select Image from the Upload Menu you used before. Browse to your chosen image and click Open. This window ill let you check your image over for any problems, and change the name of the texture if you need to. Click Upload to upload it to the grid. In order for our mesh to look right with our texture, we will need to make sure it is white, so it will show our texture properly. Click on the bigger white square to browse for your texture in your inventory, and then click OK to apply it to your model!
